The Austrian Alpine Club (ÖAV) organized its Wege- und Hüttenfachsymposium 2020 that took place in Salzburg, Austria on 14th and 15th of February 2020. The MontEO team was represented by Florian Albrecht, University of Salzburg, and Gabriela Scheierl, German Alpine Club (DAV, acting also as co-organizer).

The symposium was mostly attended by alpine club officials and hut facility managers. The presentations focused particularly on alpine trails, a topic that is often underrated by the officials of the ÖAV and DAV sections. An appropriate trail management provides the best opportunity for managing visitors. However, trails are potentially affected by climate change and change of habits of mountaineers. Additionally, the need for trail maintenance documentation and tools for risk assessment on trails were topics of the presenters.
